Graphic Design Records History
Graphic design records history. Design finds inspiration from the social, economical, physical and spiritual events occurring in the different countries and the cultures from around the world.
Six months ago, we at Studio93 decided to offer our professional design skills for free to an Irish charity. We ran an open submission called ‘Complimentary Creativity’ on our social media and website calling Irish charities to apply. They simply had to tell us about themselves and what they do. We felt overwhelmed by the response; sadly, we could only pick one. This year we are delighted to be working to promote the great work of ‘Console The National Suicide Charity’.
As designers, we have an obligation to our clients to produce professional design work that communicates their message clearly, concisely and directly to their target audience.
Graphic design is influenced by what is happening in society. We draw inspiration and creativity from the world around us. Through the decades, design has reflected through printed media social milestones and recorded social opinions and movements. Today. it is too easy to live in our own personal bubble and not realize the bigger picture.
Charities do look at the bigger picture, they aim at helping and highlighting those in need. So, we decided to help a charity to communicate their message to communicate society’s bigger picture. We choose to work with Console, National Suicide Prevention Charity.

“Design is a problem-solving process and the world today has so many problems.”
Since the economic downturn 7 years ago, Ireland has been hit with so many social crises, which have dramatically changed society. Then, came the emergence of social media, which meant we became more self-absorbed and motivated by personal gain. The financial drop caused by the economic downturn hit families and the poorer in society the hardest. This had detrimental effects on health particularly mental health.
The posters below show how graphic design through the years has visually highlighted society’s struggles and changes, good and bad through powerful images and typography.
Console highlights the issue of suicide in Ireland and works to bring more understanding about suicide. They also work with the friends and families of those who have lost someone to suicide and raise money to continue their caring work.
As designers, we have the privilege of meeting and working with different professionals every day. We love creating effective designs to communicate our client’s core value and what they do.
Graphic designers feel it is rewarding to work with highlighting important cause. We feel we have personally benefited from using our professional design skills in helping Console promote their work. We hope graphic designers will continue to use their unique talents in communicating social issues.
